We don’t teach kids to shoot.
We teach them to be safe, disciplined, and responsible.
Shooting is a byproduct of that foundation.
Course Overview
Duration: 2 Hours
Format: 1 Hour Classroom + 1 Hour Live Fire
The Youth Handgun Fundamentals Course introduces young students to safe, responsible handgun handling through structured instruction, strict supervision, and age-appropriate training.
This is not recreational shooting.
This is foundational training focused on discipline, awareness, confidence, and respect for firearms.
Eligibility & Requirements
- Ages: 10–17 (based on maturity and instructor approval)
- Parent or legal guardian must remain on-site
- No prior experience required
- Instructor-to-student ratio: 1:2 or tighter
- Students must demonstrate the ability to follow instructions and maintain focus
Course Objectives
By the end of this course, students will be able to:
- Recite and apply the Four Rules of Firearm Safety
- Safely handle, load, unload, and verify a handgun
- Maintain strict muzzle discipline at all times
- Demonstrate proper stance, grip, and trigger control
- Fire controlled, accurate shots at close distance
- Understand responsibility, consequences, and safe decision-making
Course Structure
Hour 1: Classroom Instruction (60 Minutes)
Foundation & Expectations
Students are introduced to the seriousness of training, the importance of respect, and the non-negotiable nature of safety.
Firearm Safety
Instruction and application of the Four Rules of Firearm Safety, reinforced with clear, real-world examples.
Handgun Familiarization
Students learn the basic parts and function of a handgun using inert or cleared training tools.
No live ammunition is permitted in the classroom.
Safe Handling & Muzzle Awareness
Hands-on instruction covering safe handling, proper transfer, and verification procedures.
Repetition is used to build safe habits.
Fundamentals of Shooting
Introduction to:
- Stance (balanced, athletic position)
- Grip (two-handed, controlled, consistent)
- Sight alignment and sight picture
- Trigger control (smooth, deliberate press)
Dry practice methods may include wall drills and training aids.
Responsibility & Mindset
Students are taught that firearms are tools—not toys—and that access requires maturity, discipline, and trust.
This portion emphasizes judgment, behavior, and personal responsibility.
Hour 2: Range Instruction (60 Minutes)
All students remain under direct instructor supervision at all times.
Range Safety Briefing
Review of safety rules and essential range commands.
Instructor Demonstration
Students observe proper technique before participating.
Dry Practice on the Line
Students demonstrate stance, grip, sight alignment, and trigger control prior to live fire.
Live Fire Training
- Distance: 3–5 yards
- Progression: One round → controlled strings (2–3 rounds)
- Focus: Safety, control, and accuracy
- Round count: 50–75 rounds (maximum)
Coaching & Correction
Individualized instruction addressing grip, trigger control, anticipation, and stance.
Coaching is delivered in a calm, professional, and constructive manner.
Review & Reinforcement
Session concludes with a review of key concepts, strengths, and areas for improvement.
Required Equipment
- Youth-appropriate handgun (or academy-provided)
- 50–75 rounds of ammunition
- Eye and ear protection (youth-sized recommended)
- Closed-toe shoes
- Hat and high-neck shirt recommended
- Water
Parent / Guardian Policy
- Must remain on-site for the duration of the course
- Required to sign:
- Liability waiver
- Safety agreement
- Behavior agreement
